Metal Roofing Systems
A properly installed metal roof is one of the longest-lasting roof systems you can put on a building. But it’s important to understand: the system is only as good as its details. We’ve seen high-end metal roofs with 50-year panels leaking in five years. Not because of the panel, but because of the way curbs, penetrations, and valleys were handled. At Hytech, we treat metal roofing as a craft, not just a product.

Panel Profiles – Snap-Lock vs Mechanically Seamed
Most standing seam metal roofs fall into two categories: snap-lock or mechanically seamed.
Snap-lock panels are quicker to install and work great on steeper slopes. These systems, like those offered by Taylor Metal Products and AEP Span, rely on precision manufacturing and proper slope to shed water reliably. Mechanically seamed panels, on the other hand, are locked in place with a mechanical seamer after installation, creating a watertight seal that’s ideal for low-slope roofs and buildings in high-exposure areas.
Not all buildings need the expense of a mechanically seamed system, but some absolutely do. Our team can walk you through which panel system makes the most sense for your roof and performance needs.
Not Just Material, A Full Roofing System
We love metal panels as much as anyone, but we also know the panel is just one part of the system. Flashings, underlayments, clips, sealants, ventilation—these details make or break a metal roof. A 24-gauge Kynar panel won’t last long if it’s leaking around every vent or skylight.
That’s why we don’t take shortcuts. Our install crews understand how to pair premium panels with properly executed details, and we take the time to get it right.
Built for Harsh Environments
For buildings in coastal or marine environments, we often recommend aluminum standing seam panels with Kynar 500® finishes from PacClad (Petersen Aluminum). In saltwater zones, we can also specify theirhi-build 3-coat Kynar systems, which offer excellent protection against corrosion and fading.
For a more natural finish that ages over time, we also work with copper and zinc roofing systems. Soft metals like these form a patina that protects the material and gives it a distinctive look as it weathers. We often work with Rheinzink for zinc applications on both commercial and custom residential projects.
Experience That Matches the Material
The appeal of a metal roof is its longevity, but that’s only true if the system is detailed and installed by people who understand how metal works. We’ve spent years refining our approach to metal roofing—learning which assemblies hold up in our climate, what flashing methods actually last, and how to avoid common pitfalls that take down even the best materials.
If you’re considering a metal roof, we’d love to help you do it right the first time.
